Queen of the Hills, Mussoorie is one of the most visited and best known hill stations in India. Enjoying a rich colonial heritage, Mussoorie is delightful place, with beautiful old buildings, scenic valley and mountain views, numerous nearby attractions, fabulous year-round weather, a skating rink, great food and friendly people. The town, surrounded by wooded slopes of deodar, rhododendron and oak trees, was founded as a summer holiday resort for the British by Captain Young in 1827.

Sight seeing


There are no shortages of sights in Mussoorie, and popular attractions include: Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie, located about 5 km from the Picture Palace; Kempty Falls, located about 15 km from Mussoorie, it is a beautiful and popular tourist destination; Happy Valley, located about 2 km from the Library, it is a large Tibetan settlement and a beautiful spot; Gun Hill, the second highest point in Mussoorie, offering the best view of the valley below; Municipal Garden, about 3 km from Mussoorie, it is a beautiful picnic spot with a lake.

A must-experience in Mussoorie is a horse-back ride on Camel’s Back Road, admiring the beautiful scenery. Horse rides are also great ways to traverse the mall when you are not feeling like walking or taking a cycle rickshaw. Another must experience is the ropeway ride from the Mall to Gun Hill, the second highest point in Mussoorie. The view on the ride is as spectacular as the ride itself, and a must do. Lal Tibba, the highest point in Mussoorie, is of course another must visit place, which promises some tantalizing views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

 

Shopping


The Mall of Mussoorie is packed with shops that cater to all your souvenir, clothing, antique, jewellery, and handicraft shopping needs. Also visit Landour Bazaar, about 4 km away, which offers excellent clothing and tailoring shops, as well as other products. The market is unique in being nearly completely cloaked in silence, and it has signs to this effect nailed onto trees. Mussoorie also has a variety of branded stores on the Mall, such as PlanetM, Wingsfield, Reebok, Liberty, Koutons and many more. The Ropeways shopping centre and the Tibetan Market, a great place to buy woollens is The Himalayan Weavers shop, located about 8 km away on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road, is a local cooperative that produces hand-woven shawls, stoles, scarves, and silk.
